How does injection mold work on Injection Molding Machine ?
Injection molding process
The injection molding process is a production methodfor manufacturing plastic parts with high precision andrepeatability. Plastic granulate is melted, injected into a mold under pressure, cooled, and ejected. This createsplastic products with the desired shape and dimensions, ready for use or further finishing.
Step 1: Preparing the materials
The basic material for injection molding is plastic granulate. Some plastics must be dried beforehand toremove moisture that could affect the quality of the end product. The materialis then fed into the hopper of theinjection molding machine, ready for the meltingprocess.
Step 2: Melting and transporting
The granulate is fed into a heated cylinder via the hopper. A rotating screw transports the materialforward while it is heated. Friction and heatingelements melt the plastic into a liquid mass that issuitable for injection.
Step 3:Injection and cooling
The molten plastic is injected into the closed mold athigh pressure, where it fills all cavities and takes on thedesired shape. The material then cools and solidifies, often aided by cooling channels in the mold, making the part strong and dimensionally stable.
Step 4:Ejection and finishing
After sufficient cooling, the mold is opened and thecooled part is ejected using ejector mechanisms. Ifnecessary, the part undergoes post-processing, suchas deburring, printing, or assembly with other parts.
